How old do I need to be in order to get a tattoo in SC?2024-11-27T15:03:00+00:00

South Carolina law states that 18 is the legal age to get a tattoo. No, you cannot have a tattoo under 18 with adult consent.

Can I see the custom tattoo design before my appointment?2024-11-27T15:13:42+00:00

Short answer, no.  The artist’s schedule doesn’t allow for them to draw for appointments days to weeks in advance.   You will need to be as descriptive as possible on your client form for the artists to be able to do as few revisions as possible.  Inspiration photos are a great help to!  You will have time to discuss your changes in person at your appointment.

For longer appointments, you will require an in-depth consultation.  Your artist will ask all the important questions and may have more questions before your appointment specific to your design such as small details, words, color choices, or other specific elements that are important to your design. After your original consultation, your artist should have all of the information to envision your exact expectation.  Small changes and revisions can be made day-of. A complete redraw will require a new appointment.

What do I need to know about aftercare?2024-11-27T14:55:11+00:00

Why is tattoo aftercare important?

Proper tattoo aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals well, retains its vibrant colors, and avoids complications like infections or excessive scarring. Following aftercare instructions will help preserve the quality of your tattoo for years to come.

How do I care for my new tattoo?

  1. Keep the bandage on: Leave the bandage applied by your artist on for the recommended time (usually 2-6 hours).
  2. Wash gently: After removing the bandage, wash your tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Avoid scrubbing.
  3. Pat dry: Gently pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid rubbing.
  4. Apply moisturizer: Use a thin layer of tattoo-specific ointment or fragrance-free lotion to keep the tattoo moisturized.
  5. Avoid soaking: Refrain from submerging your tattoo in water, such as in baths, pools, or hot tubs, for at least 2-3 weeks.
  6. Protect from the sun: Avoid direct sunlight and always apply sunscreen to your tattoo once it has healed.
  7. Do not pick or scratch: Allow any scabs or peeling skin to fall off naturally.

What products should I use on my tattoo?

  • Use a mild, unscented soap for cleaning.
  • A tattoo-specific ointment or a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic lotion is best for moisturizing.
  • Avoid petroleum-based products, as they can clog pores and delay healing.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

Initial healing typically takes about 2-3 weeks, but it may take up to 4-6 weeks for the deeper layers of skin to fully heal. During this time, follow your artist’s aftercare instructions carefully.

What should I avoid during the healing process?

  • Do not pick at scabs or peeling skin.
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs, and prolonged exposure to water.
  • Stay away from direct sunlight and tanning beds.
  • Avoid wearing tight or abrasive clothing over the tattoo.

What are the signs of a healing tattoo?

  • Slight redness, swelling, and tenderness are normal in the first few days.
  • Scabbing and peeling usually occur after the first week.
  • Itching is common but avoid scratching.

When should I contact my tattoo artist or a doctor?

Contact your tattoo artist or a medical professional if you notice:

  • Excessive redness or swelling.
  • Pus, unusual discharge, or a foul odor.
  • Persistent pain or tenderness beyond the first week.
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash or hives.

Additional Tips

  • Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to support healing.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking, as they can slow the healing process.
  • Keep your tattoo clean and moisturized as directed.
